The Waterways of South Vietnam

The Mekong Delta in South Vietnam.

Named after one of Asia´s most famous river, its forms one of the world´s great delta areas.

Rivers large and small, wending their way from deep inland, from the plains of western Cambodia to the mountains of Laos, to meet up at the Mekong Delta. In ancient times it was an immense natural habitat for every kind of animal – including monkeys, tigers, rhinoceri and crocodiles – and profusion of birds and fish.

In contemporary times it became an immense waterway, a profusion of waterways large and small, plied by feries and boats and one of the most densely populated areas of Vietnam. These photos were taken in 2007.
